Born in the Bay: Our Story
San Francisco,1960: Two good friends, Ed DeCort and Bill Fitzgerald, co-owned an old 1950 Chevrolet and wanted to join a car club. Seeing how no club in San Francisco would let two guys join with only the one car between them, they said "screw" it and started their own club. This was the birth of the Laf-A-Lots Car Club. Sadly, in 1965, Ed fell ill and passed away of Leukemia. This had a bit of an impact on the club and its presence in the automotive world. However, a spark came in 1996 when Bill finished up his 1937 Ford Tudor Sedan. Only two days after finishing it, and only two phone calls, the club had its two newest members: Dennis Phillipe and Dave Barsi. Since that day, the momentum kept up, and the club added many members, as well as its newest chapter in the North Bay (Marin & Sonoma Counties), all of which are considered part of our (dysfunctional at times) family.
